Killer Instints
2010

In expressing his joy at the chance to produce a Jason D. Williams album, Todd Snider says, "I'd been waiting 15 years on this phone call." The Arkansas piano player retorts, "I'd been waiting 15 years to make this phone call."
Snider had to put on his producer hat right away. After a day of working on the cover songs that Williams had prepared, the session was not working. So the duo started writing on the fly. Williams says, "All of a sudden, our agenda went to hell and we were just creating in there. Todd made me feel like it was ok to reach down and sing something crazy. It was just short of amazing and magical."

Killer Instinct was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, TN and mixed at the famous Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN. Dan Baird, Keith Christopher, Richard Leo Johnson and Randy Cox also joined in on the fun

Enthusiastic, Reckless, Stormy, Rock & Roll in its natural state ... This explains why the Kansas City Star Pronounced Jason D. Williams as "the past and future of rock & roll." The Beacon Journal dubbed him as "The worlds greats piano player." Most importantly this reminds you of why you got into rock & roll in the first place, to get a little wild.

After seeing a live show there will be no doubt why fans and critics alike agree with that summation of the dynamic piano player from Memphis. Jason D. has the same musical innovation and on the edge attitude as Jerry Lee and Elvis.

Jason's' style is difficult to describe. From Classical to Rockabilly to County to Jazz and on to Rock & Roll, Jason D. adapts to each different concert setting he performs.

Television cameras love Jason's energy and style. He has appeared on such shows as MTV's News at Night, MTV The Week in Rock, Pat Sajak Show, LIVE! on ABC, Regis and Kathie Lee Show, VH1, VH1's This is Country, Crook & Chase, Nashville Now, Music City Tonight, Entertainment Tonight, that's just to name a few.

Jason is on the road over 200 days a year playing to crowds in every setting, from clubs to amphitheaters and many corporate sponsored events. Jason D. is unique, talented and full of raw energy. This is one act you have to see and hear to believe.

Product Description
Jason D. Williams has spent a lifetime behind the piano connecting with country and rock 'n' roll greats while creating a persona that's 100% original. That rock 'n' roll history of Memphis looms large in Williams' world. He recorded for Sun Records, the early label home of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and the man who first took Williams on the road, rockabilly legend Sleepy LaBeef. Now, after decades of being celebrated for his take-no-prisoners approach to performing country and rock 'n' roll penned by others, Williams has added a new element to his artistry, songwriting.
Early in 2010, Williams, who recorded for RCA and Sun Records in the 1980s and '90s, was set to return to the recording fold with Todd Snider as his producer. The two had discussed the covers they would tackle and tape had started to roll when they decided to try something different. Snider has become entranced by Williams' ability to create poetry on the spot and thought his words could easily become lyrics. And from several mad, inspired weeks of recording in Nashville and Memphis, TN the 14-track album, Killer Instincts, was born.
Williams tours up to 200 shows per year. Having a visual appeal on par with his musical talent has led to numerous television appearances, among them 'Regis and Kathie Lee.' 'Nashville Now,' 'Entertainment Tonight' and various shows on MTV and VH1. A wild man onstage, he has been compared to Jerry Lee Lewis so often that rumors started in Memphis that he was the Killer's son.
The influence of Lewis comes through in his high-energy performances, Williams says, but his songs get him to a different place. As he says, 'It's Jerry Lee Lewis meets Jackson Pollock and Jerry Lee Lewis meets Joe Namath.'

Gangster Of Love
Johnny "Guitar" Watson

Jesse James and Frank James,
Billy the Kid and all the rest,
Supposed to be some bad cats
Out in the West.

But when they dug me,
And my gangster ways,
They hung up their guns,
And made into their graves.

Cause I'm a gangster of love,
Say, I'm a gangster of love.
Oh, well now,
When I walk down the street,
All the girls that I meet
Say: "he's a gangster of love"

(Yeah!)

I robbed a local beauty contest,
for their first place winner,
they found her with me out in Hollywood,
eating a big steak dinner.
They tried to get her to go back,
to pick up her prize.
She stood up and told them:
"You just don't realize, that he's a gangster of love"

And in the morning,
gangster of love.
(Uuh yeah, now!)
When I walk in to a bar,
girls from... from near and far,
say: "he's a gangster of love".

(Alright!)

I jump on my white horse Cadillac,
I ride across the border line,
I rope 65 girls,
I kiss them all the same time,
I take 25 or 30,
I put 'em all on a freight,
A million dollar reward for me,
In each and every state,
Sheriff say "Is you "Guitar" Watson?"
In a very deep voice
And I say "yes sir brother sheriff, and that's your wife on the back of my horse"

Cause I'm a gangster of love
I'm a gangster of love

(Yeah!)

When I walk down the street,
All the girls that I meet
Say: "he's a gangster of love"

No Love Is Sorrow
(Jansch, Renbourn, Thompson, Cox, McShee) – 2:41

just like the songbird
deep in the forest
i sing praises
but you never hear

deep in my body
my song is silent
yet content at
times when you're near

please listen to me
and i will tell thee
all those words that
have never been said

they shout inside of me
but then the coward
behind a weak man
starts ruling my head

i never a loved thee
and not one other
will know sweetness
that lies in my breast

'tis you that made me
but have abided me
to uncover my
heart to the stars

no love is sorrow
but now i'm happy
to have thee in
this world for my love

and now you must know
my soul is for thee
that's why this life
is my sorry love

Gibson ES-250
The ES-250 first appeared in the 1940 Gibson AA catalog with the slogan: "Gibson has created the best electric guitar possible to make." This top-of-the-line instrument was an upgraded version of the popular ES-150. It had significant refinements which distinguished it from the earlier mid-range model. These included a larger body, a more deluxe fingerboard, headstock, tuners and tailpiece, and a bar pickup with individual mini-blades acting as separate polepieces for each string--for "maximum tonal reproduction."

Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster
Desde 1949

The ES-5 combines the acclaimed features of the L-5 with the finest method of electronic guitar amplification. Three separately controlled, adjustable magnetic pickups reproduce the full, rich tones and harmonics to make the ES-5 truly ‘the instrument of a thousand voices.'" — Gibson catalog, circa 1951

The Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster was truly a guitar ahead of its time. First introduced in 1949, the ES-5 Switchmaster was the first ES guitar to be fitted with three pickups, and was initially intended solely for jazz players. It was dubbed the “supreme electronic version” of Gibson’s L-5 and offered a unique four-knob control circuitry that allowed players to manage pickup selection by adjusting the volume of each pickup, thus eliminating the pickup selector switch. Yet despite its pioneering circuitry and three-pickup layout, the ES-5 Switchmaster was not immediately embraced by jazz players while competing guitar manufacturers rushed to introduce their own similar models, including the Epiphone Zephyr Emperor of the early 1950s and the Fender Stratocaster in 1954.

Fender Tweed 4x100 Bassman

The ’50s Fender Bassman was the pro bassist’s answer to amplifying a great new invention: the Fender Precision Bass® guitar. This powerful 50-watt rig could easily compete with the common instrumentation of the day: horns, piano, four-piece drum kit with calfskin heads, and maybe even an electric guitar through a nice, new 10-watt amp! By the ’60s and ’70s, the original all-tube “Tweed” 4x10 Bassman was popular with rock, country and blues guitarists as a reliably great-sounding and easy-to-use guitar amp. Even some emerging British amp designers of the day copied its circuitry for use in their most celebrated designs.

In the 1990s, Fender released an affordable reissue of the now-collectible ’59 Bassman amplifier to massive acclaim. Many guitarists, tired of experimenting with preamps, equalizers, and effects racks, rediscovered the simple pleasure of plugging into a Fender tube amp. The Bassman’s wide stage coverage, touch-sensitive dynamics and full-frequency “swirl” make it the perfect vehicle for building a great tone with almost any guitar or effect. The reissue Bassman continues to be a staple of the Fender guitar amp line to this day.
